Light Aircraft Grey Story Light Aircraft Grey was introduced by the RAF in 1945. The colour was originally used for the undersides of aircraft because it greatly minimised the visual signature from the ground even when flying close to water or at low altitude. By the late 1970s Light Aircraft Grey was extended to cover the entire airframe of certain designs.
